MOXY OLD BUND, NINGBO
In the heart of Ningbo’s Old Bund — once the city’s maritime gateway — StudioGlam transforms a former museum into a neon-lit playground of attitude. The conversion celebrates Ningbo’s industrial soul and portside grit while injecting Moxy’s unapologetically playful energy. The result? A hotel that doesn’t just welcome guests — it winks at them.
The façade, a kaleidoscope of reflective panels, riffs on the geometry of shipping containers and the motion of waves — a subtle nod to the city’s legendary container terminal. Inside, the story flips from heritage to high-voltage pop. The bar glows like a stage set, the lobby bursts with comic-book graphics, and neon signs trace Ningbo’s nightscape in electric pinks and cobalt blues.
Every material tells a story of repurposing and rebellion: corrugated steel walls reimagined as sculpture, terrazzo floors that recall dockside grit, and installations that laugh out loud — from glowing underwear icons to pop-art murals of urban play.
“Moxy is about attitude, not perfection,” says designer Godfrey Lam. “This project was a remix — turning a piece of Ningbo’s history into something alive, cheeky, and culturally charged.”
What emerges is industrial nostalgia in technicolor — a design that honors the city’s past while dancing fearlessly into its future. Moxy Ningbo is more than a hotel; it’s a love letter to the city’s creative youth — raw, witty, and ready to party till sunrise.
